What is MY Reason to Tri?

Well, this little blog started out as “My Reason to Run”.  I’ve been a “runner” off and on for most of my adult life, but could never make a consistent habit out of it.  I started running (again) in January 2009 for the same reason most people do; to fit into their skinny jeans and look good in a bikini.  By summer of that year, I was still running but not consistently running.  My motivation seemed empty.  Earlier that year my daughter was diagnosed with a rare genetic brain malformation called Joubert Syndrome. At the time, she was almost a year old and couldn’t even roll over.  I decided to really start running…..because she could not.  In December 2009 I created a running fund raising campaign called Jog for Joubert Syndrome. We raised over $6000 in 2010, all benefiting the Joubert Syndrome Foundation!

I developed runner’s knee in June 2010, it nagged at me all summer until I fell during a trail run.  That simple little fall put me out of running commission for 3 months.  While I was unable to run, I decided to start cycling.  I was completely clueless about cycling, but I fell in love with the sport instantly.  Then the crazy idea crept into my head that maybe I should take up swimming again…..I was on the swim team in high school!  And while I’m at it…..I should start doing triathlons.  3 months without running, and a cortisone shot to the knee later, my knee was finally healed enough to start running again and I began training for my first triathlon in January 2011.  So far I have done 2 sprint triathlons and 1 biathlon.  I am totally addicted to the sport.  I am no longer a runner, I am a triathlete!  I hope to complete an Olympic distance and Half Ironman distance triathlon in 2012.
Thanks for following my journey!
